🚀 Getting Started

To start using hecate-os, follow the steps below to download and install it on your machine.

1. Check Your System Requirements

Before downloading, ensure that your computer meets these minimum requirements:

• Processor: Dual-core or better
• RAM: At least 4 GB (8 GB recommended)
• Storage: At least 20 GB of free space
• Graphics Card: Compatible with NVIDIA is beneficial for optimal performance, but it works well with integrated graphics, too.

2. Visit the Releases Page

Head over to our GitHub Releases page to find the latest version of hecate-os. Click the link below:

3. Download the Image File

On the Releases page, look for the latest release and download the corresponding image file. This file might have an extension like .iso. Click on it to start the download.

4. Create a Bootable USB Drive

To install hecate-os, you need a bootable USB drive. Follow these steps based on your operating system:

• For Windows:
  1. Download a tool like Rufus.
  2. Insert a USB drive (all data will be erased).
  3. Open Rufus and select your USB drive.
  4. Choose the downloaded hecate-os .iso file.
  5. Click “Start” to create the bootable drive.
• For macOS:
  1. Use the built-in Disk Utility app.
  2. Insert a USB drive (all data will be erased).
  3. Open Terminal and use dd command to create a bootable USB.
  4. Example command: sudo dd if=/path/to/hecate-os.iso of=/dev/diskN bs=1m
  5. Replace /dev/diskN with your USB drive location.
• For Linux:
  1. Insert a USB drive (all data will be erased).
  2. Open Terminal.
  3. Use the dd command, similar to macOS. Example command: sudo dd if=/path/to/hecate-os.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M
  4. Replace /dev/sdX with your USB drive location.

5. Boot from the USB Drive

Once the bootable USB drive is ready, restart your computer:

• Access the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing keys like F2, F12, DEL, or ESC during startup).
• Change the boot order to prioritize USB devices.
• Save the changes and exit.

6. Install hecate-os

1. After booting, you will see the hecate-os welcome screen.
2. Choose “Install hecate-os” and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Select installation preferences such as language, keyboard layout, and installation type (e.g., replace existing OS or dual boot).
4. Continue through the installation steps until it completes.

7. First Boot

After installation is complete, reboot your computer. Remove the USB drive when prompted. Upon starting hecate-os for the first time:

• Create a user account and set a password.
• Customize your settings as preferred.
